A Look at Our Community

Welcome to the City of Otsego!
Our community extends an open invitation for everyone to stop and enjoy our hospitality. The first portion of our tour will stop at the various public facilities in our community.
The current City Hall was originally built in 1976 and was renovated and expanded in 1999. It is located at the corner of Orleans and Fair Streets.
Next to City Hall on Farmer Street is the Otsego Fire Department. This facility was dedicated in 1969 and contains apparatus which serves both the City of Otsego and Otsego Township. The department currently consists of 30 volunteer firefighters.
Just south of the Fire Station is the Otsego District Public Library. The library was dedicated in 1971 and received authority to levy their own operating millage in 1996.
Further east on Orleans Street, just west of M-89, is the City of Otsego Community Center/Scout House. The building was originally built and used primarily for Boy and Girl Scout Activities. In 1978 the property was deeded to the City where it may now also be rented for business and family events.
Coming back towards downtown from Northside Park, you will pass the City of Otsego's Department of Public Works. This facility serves two very important functions. First, it acts as a base of operations for the men and equipment responsible for maintaining the City's streets, buildings, parks and municipal utilities. Secondly, it is a receiving point, known to our residents as "The Transfer Station," whereby property owners can bring non-food waste to be disposed of for a fee, as well as a recycling center which will receive many items and yard waste at no charge.
The City of Otsego provides municipal water and sewer service. Our current well field is located at Brookside Park with a storage tank located just outside the northeast City limits. The Wastewater Treatment Plant is located on Grant Street north of Allegan Street and is a trickling filter process. The plant was extensively renovated and expanded in its capacity from 1989 to 1991.
